PHOENIX – The holiday season is the worst time of year for drunk driving accidents. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) will pass out red ribbons, starting Tuesday, to raise awareness.

MADD has partnered with Desert Car Care Centers around the Valley. Free windshield wiper blades and a free inspection voucher will be given to anyone who signs a promise not to drink and drive.

The campaign will run through Dec. 29.

According to MADD, one in every three people will be involved in a drunk driving crash.

Despite the statistics, it appears a growing number of drivers still choose to get behind the wheel while intoxicated.

A recent report, by the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, shows more than 1,900 people were arrested for DUI between November 24, 2011, and December 16, 2011.

That number jumped this year. Nearly 2,400 were arrested between November 23, 2012, and December 17, 2012.
